The Success of MCS Group’s MiniSpector Mini-ROV Systems in 2024
Throughout 2024, MCS Group’s 10 MiniSpector Mini-ROV systems have proven their efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out subsea inspection and survey projects across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
Platform-Based Inspections and Innovative Capabilities
The MiniSpector fleet excelled in platform-based inspections, conducting operations on 19 platforms in Malaysia, Egypt, and Qatar. Notably, the inspections in Qatar focused on flare platforms without the need for shutdowns, showcasing the versatility of the MiniSpector.
One of the standout projects in 2024 was a 40-day high-pressure water jet cleaning operation in the Red Sea for a major Middle Eastern client. Operating at an impressive 1200 bar (17400 PSI), the MiniSpector effectively removed marine growth, barnacles, and algae from steel and platform materials at depths of -1m to -30m. This not only reduced structural loads but also prepared the platform for new installations.
Pipeline Inspections and Cost-Effective Solutions
In addition to platform inspections, the MiniSpector inspected over 175 km of pipelines using smaller vessels in the UAE. Equipped with three HD cameras, scanning profilers, and a four-function manipulator, the MiniSpector performed tasks such as continuous cathodic protection and ultrasonic wall thickness readings.
Continuing to support client projects cost-effectively, the MiniSpector was deployed for various tasks, including 7 kilometers of cable touchdown monitoring in Egypt, seabed and bathymetric surveys in Saudi Arabia, and CALM buoy chain metrology in Malaysia.
Future Plans and Technological Enhancements
Alasdair Cowie, Group Business Development Director at MCS Group, expressed confidence in the MiniSpector fleet’s performance in 2024 and highlighted plans for expansion in 2025 to meet growing demand. Technological enhancements are also in the pipeline to maintain a competitive edge in subsea inspections and surveys.
The MiniSpector Mini-ROV is a compact and agile system designed to operate in current speeds up to 3 knots and depths of 300m. With features like the Photo Realistic 3D Cloud (PRC) system, the MiniSpector provides highly accurate 3D subsea measurements, making it ideal for a wide range of applications.
Overall, MCS Group’s MiniSpector Mini-ROV systems have proven to be reliable, cost-effective, and versatile tools for subsea inspections and surveys. With a focus on delivering tailored solutions to address specific operational and cost challenges, MCS Group remains committed to supporting their clients and meeting their evolving needs.
