Asso.subsea Secures Nearshore Cable Installation Contract for TenneT Projects

Subsea cable services company Asso.subsea has been awarded the nearshore cable installation contract for three significant projects as part of TenneT’s 2 GW grid program. These projects, BalWin4, LanWin1, and LanWin5, are crucial for enhancing the electrical grid infrastructure off the northwestern coast of Baltrum Island in northern Germany.

Working in collaboration with Jan De Nul, who is the main contractor, and with TenneT as the end client, Asso.subsea will be responsible for the transportation and nearshore installation of a complex cable bundle. This bundle includes 2 HVDC power cables, one metallic return cable, and one fiber optic cable for each project.

The installation timeline for these projects spans from 2027 to 2029, with BalWin4 scheduled for 2027, LanWin1 for 2028, and LanWin5 for 2029. The scope of work involves cable transpooling from load-out ports in the Netherlands or Germany, nearshore installation operations utilizing the cable laying vessel (CLV) Atalanti, and precision cable landing via beaching operations with spud cans.

Furthermore, Asso.subsea will oversee cable free-lay in intertidal zones and wet storage of cable ends, ensuring the successful completion of these technically challenging nearshore operations. The company’s in-house capabilities, vessel adaptability, and commitment to engineered solutions position them well to meet the unique demands of these projects.

“These nearshore operations require meticulous planning and precise execution due to the sensitivity to tidal conditions. Asso.subsea is dedicated to delivering high-quality solutions that meet the rigorous standards of the industry,” stated a representative from Asso.subsea.
