The Switch Secures Multi-Million Dollar Contract with Vard Electro for Diesel-Electric Hybrid Vessels

The Switch, a leading provider of power electronics for the marine industry, has recently announced a significant milestone with the signing of a multi-million-dollar contract with Vard Electro. The agreement entails the delivery of state-of-the-art equipment for five diesel-electric hybrid walk-to-work vessels.

Under the terms of the contract, The Switch will supply its innovative DC-Hub technology to multiple vessels currently under construction at Vard Electro, a subsidiary of Vard, a Fincantieri company. With a total of 15 DC-Hubs set to be delivered, this project highlights the growing demand for flexible and future-proof power distribution systems in the maritime sector.

Enhancing Efficiency and Sustainability

The five diesel-electric hybrid walk-to-work vessels, based on the VARD 3 32 design, are specifically designed to provide maintenance, supply, and operational services to offshore platforms in the oil and gas industry. These versatile vessels prioritize onboard logistics, comfort, large storage capacities, and superior operability, making them ideal for support operations in challenging marine environments.

Equipped with a cutting-edge diesel-electric and battery-hybrid propulsion system, these vessels are poised to set new standards for efficiency and sustainability in the maritime industry.

The Switch DC-Hub: A Game-Changer in Marine Electrification

At the heart of this project lies The Switch’s revolutionary DC-Hub technology, a smart solution for multi-megawatt DC distribution systems. Engineered to optimize DC distribution and facilitate the seamless integration of new energy sources, The Switch DC-Hub ensures stable and secure operations for vessels of all sizes.

Commenting on the partnership with Vard Electro, Paul Atherton, General Manager at The Switch Norway, expressed his pride in the collaboration. “This contract underscores our expertise in marine electrification and reinforces our commitment to driving the transition towards net-zero emissions,” he stated.
