TotalEnergies and CMA CGM Group to Develop LNG Bunker Supply Solution in Rotterdam

TotalEnergies and CMA CGM Group have announced a strategic partnership to establish a 50/50 logistics joint venture dedicated to the implementation and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker supply solution at the port of Rotterdam, Netherlands. This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of both French companies towards accelerating the energy transition in the maritime sector.

Under this agreement, a new 20,000 cubic-meter LNG bunker vessel will be stationed in Rotterdam by the end of 2028 and operated jointly by the two companies. The CMA CGM-TotalEnergies joint venture will provide a comprehensive logistics service, offering LNG bunker delivery to a wide range of vessels operating in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region, including those of CMA CGM and other shipping operators.

The joint venture will leverage TotalEnergies’ established logistics infrastructure in the ARA region, complementing the operations of the LNG bunker vessel Gas Agility, which has been operational since 2020. By integrating the new LNG bunker vessel with Gas Agility, the partnership aims to enhance delivery flexibility and operational efficiency across the region.

To support CMA CGM’s goal of achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050 and ensuring a stable supply of LNG for its dual-fuel LNG-powered fleet, TotalEnergies will provide CMA CGM with up to 360,000 tons of LNG annually from 2028 to 2040.

The establishment of the joint venture is subject to regulatory approvals.

Overall, the partnership between TotalEnergies and CMA CGM Group signifies a significant milestone in the development of sustainable LNG bunkering solutions at one of Europe’s prominent port facilities. Through this collaboration, both companies aim to drive the adoption of cleaner fuels and contribute to the decarbonization of the maritime industry.
