Tritech International Launches New Gemini 1200id Sonar for ROVs

Subsea imaging technology provider Tritech International has introduced the latest addition to its product lineup – the Gemini 1200id sonar. This new dual frequency sonar is specifically designed to provide higher resolution imaging capabilities for work class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).

Based on the proven platform of the industry standard Gemini 720is sonar, the Gemini 1200id offers a wide 120° horizontal field of view when operating at both 720 kHz and 1200 kHz acoustic frequencies. The sonar also boasts improved attenuation of waterborne electrical noise, ensuring optimal imaging performance in challenging underwater environments.

One of the key features of the Gemini 1200id is its integrated speed-of-sound sensor, which enhances the positional accuracy of targets detected by the sonar. Additionally, CHIRP processing technology is utilized to improve target separation over longer ranges, making it an ideal tool for various subsea applications.

Moreover, the Gemini 1200id is fully compatible with Tritech’s advanced software package, Genesis. This integration allows for seamless user interaction and enables control of multiple Tritech products within a single software interface. For developers, software development kits (SDKs) are available for both Windows and Linux operating systems.

As Asim Azad, Hardware Engineering Manager at Tritech International, explains, “The Gemini 1200id is equipped with an ultra-low-noise differential analogue front-end that supports a wide dynamic range optimized for sonar imaging applications. Its ability to actively attenuate waterborne electrical noise from other subsea equipment provides work class ROV operators with the clarity and confidence needed for mission-critical operations.”
