Van Oord Secures Land Reclamation Contract for Naïa Island Dubai
Van Oord, a renowned marine contractor, has recently been awarded a significant contract for the land reclamation of Naïa Island Dubai, a prestigious new development situated just off the coastline of Jumeirah. This project represents another remarkable achievement for Van Oord in the region, adding to their impressive portfolio of successful projects in Dubai, including Dubai Harbor, the World Islands, and Palm Jumeirah.
Naïa Island Dubai, a visionary project by Shamal Holding, is set to cover an expansive area of approximately 13 hectares and will boast 6 kilometers of unspoiled beaches. The design of the island aims to capture the essence of a natural, untouched paradise, with a strong emphasis on preserving the existing beach environment through the integration of open green spaces and coastal terrain.
Leveraging their extensive experience in coastal development projects in Dubai, Van Oord will utilize their expertise to reclaim over 28 million cubic meters of sand and deposit around 4.3 million tons of rock for the Naïa Island project. Additionally, Van Oord will be responsible for the installation of critical marine infrastructure, such as quay walls and culverts, with a focus on incorporating nature-based enhancements. The scope of work also includes the realignment of existing beaches and the strategic relocation of current rock groynes to optimize coastal protection and enhance the overall guest experience.
To expedite soil compaction and streamline the site preparation process for construction, Van Oord will employ advanced ground improvement techniques. The project will involve the deployment of a fleet of specialized dredging vessels, including trailing suction hopper dredgers and marine rock installation vessels. The anticipated completion date for the Naïa Island Dubai project is slated for the first half of 2027.
