Van Oord Introduces Jet-It Trencher to its Fleet for Cable Burial

Dutch offshore installation company, Van Oord, has recently unveiled its latest addition to the trencher fleet – the Jet-It. This new unit comes after a successful testing campaign in the North Sea, showcasing its capabilities in cable burial operations.

Following the footsteps of its predecessors, Dig-It and Deep Dig-It, the Jet-It trencher is designed specifically for cable burial tasks. While Dig-It and Deep Dig-It utilize mechanical cutting and jetting technology, the Jet-It is solely equipped with advanced jetting technology.

Van Oord prides itself on the efficiency of the Jet-It trencher, which utilizes high-pressure water to fluidize the substrate and create trenches with precision. This innovative system allows for faster and more effective cable installation processes.

With the addition of Jet-It to its fleet, Van Oord now boasts a total of three trenchers, each with its own unique strengths and capabilities. This diversity enables the company to adapt to various soil conditions, trench depths, and project requirements, ensuring optimal performance in every operation.

The Jet-It trencher is specifically designed for burying inter-array and export cables in sandy and light clay soils. Equipped with two high-pressure, frequency-driven water pumps, it can trench to depths of up to 3 meters with high-speed precision, thanks to multiple integrated sensors.

One of the key features of the Jet-It trencher is its fast mobilization capability. It can be easily deployed on any vessel with a single lift, enhancing operational efficiency and flexibility for Van Oord’s projects.

Van Oord expressed their excitement about the new addition on social media, stating, “With the arrival of Jet-It, we can offer even greater efficiency in subsea cable installation, further solidifying our commitment to excellence in offshore operations.”
