The Dutch Company Van Oord Secures Contract for Seabed Protection at Polish Offshore Wind Farms
The Dutch company Van Oord has signed a contract with Equinor and Polenergia to perform seabed protection work at the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms in Poland.
The contract entails the supply, transport, and installation of stone ripraps on the seabed to safeguard the cables and foundations of the wind farms.
“The implementation of the agreement will allow us to secure the foundations of wind turbines, offshore transformer stations, and the internal cable routes connecting the wind farms with the Polish power grid on the offshore section. This will protect the underwater infrastructure against erosion processes and prevent damage to the cables,” stated Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, President of the Management Board of Equinor Polska.
Equinor and Polenergia are jointly developing three offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea with a combined capacity of up to 3 GW.
The initial phase of the development will involve the installation of 100 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD wind turbines at the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 wind farms.
The foundations for these turbines will be provided by the Dutch company Sif under a contract signed with the developers in February 2024. Additionally, the export cables will be supplied by Greece’s Hellenic Cables.
In August 2024, the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms received all the required construction permits. These projects, with a combined capacity of 1,440 MW, are set to provide renewable energy to over two million households, as per the developers’ estimates.
