NCT Offshore Receives Advanced Cable-Laying Vessel from VARD

Norway’s ship designer and shipbuilder VARD has recently delivered a state-of-the-art cable-laying vessel (CLV) to Denmark’s subsea specialist NCT Offshore, marking a significant milestone in the maritime industry.

The 95-meter-long CLV, named Freja, was ordered by NCT in early 2023 and was designed by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway. The vessel’s hull was built by Vard Tulcea in Romania, with final outfitting, commissioning, and delivery completed by Vard Langsten in Norway.

After its launch at Vard Shipyards in Tulcea, the vessel successfully made its way to Norway from Romania and is now set to sail to Denmark for further fitting and testing, including the installation of remaining cable lay equipment, subsea package, and the Seaonics W2W gangway system.

In an impressive timeframe of less than 18 months since the first steel was cut, the vessel has been fully assembled, outfitted, commissioned, and is ready for its maiden voyage. NCT Offshore’s Chief Commercial Officer, Alexander Cortes, commended the collaborative effort of project teams and suppliers for delivering the vessel on time and within budget.

The CLV is equipped to handle turnkey array cable transport and installation tasks for the offshore renewable industry. It features a diesel-electric DP2 system, a hybrid battery package, single-cabin accommodation for 60 personnel, two cable carousels with a capacity of over 3,500 tons, and an innovative walk-to-work system.
