Introducing the First Crew Transfer Vessel Immersion Suit Designed for Women in Offshore Wind Energy

VIKING Life-Saving Equipment has made a groundbreaking move by launching the world’s first Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) immersion suit specifically designed for women working in offshore wind energy. This innovative product, known as the VIKING YouSafe Cyclone suit, has been developed with input from industry leaders Ørsted, Siemens, and Vestas, who have provided guidance on diversity and inclusivity.

With a growing emphasis on diversity and inclusivity in the offshore wind industry, the need for female-specific personal protective equipment (PPE) has become a priority. The recent UK Government Industrial Strategy Offshore Wind Sector Deal study set a ‘minimum target’ for one third of the industry’s workforce to be female by 2030, highlighting the importance of addressing the safety needs of women working offshore.

Companies like Ørsted, Siemens, and Vestas have recognized the significance of female-specific PPE in promoting equity and inclusivity within the industry. Lasse Hansen, Senior HSE Manager at Ørsted, emphasized the importance of providing women with the necessary safety gear to work offshore safely and attract more women to the field.

The VIKING YouSafe Cyclone suit, made from high-vis GORE-TEX NARVIK material, offers a female-fit design approved to the same dual SOLAS/MED and CE/ISO standards as the male version. The suit features compatibility with standard offshore harnesses, durable Neoprene cuffs and neck seal, retro-reflective piping for enhanced visibility, and a maintenance-free zipper.

Bettina Kjærgaard, Global Sales Manager Offshore Wind at VIKING Life-Saving Equipment, expressed excitement about the collaboration with industry partners to bring the YouSafe Cyclone suit to market. She highlighted the positive response from customers who have embraced the importance of providing female workers with the necessary safety equipment.

Overall, the launch of the VIKING YouSafe Cyclone suit marks a significant step towards promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the offshore wind industry. By addressing the specific safety needs of women working offshore, companies are paving the way for a more inclusive and supportive workplace environment.
