Wärtsilä Signs Service Agreement with GasLog for LNG Carriers Maintenance

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, a division of Finland’s renowned technology company Wärtsilä, has recently inked a significant agreement with Greek fleet owner GasLog for the service and maintenance of their liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers fleet.

The three-year contract encompasses maintenance services for five 180,000 cubic meter LNG carrier vessels equipped with Wärtsilä’s proprietary mixed refrigerant (MR) Reliq liquefaction plants. The agreement was finalized in December 2024, marking a milestone for both companies.

Under the terms of the deal, GasLog will benefit from technical support, assured spare parts availability, specialized field service personnel, and performance monitoring of Wärtsilä’s plants onboard the vessels. Additionally, Wärtsilä will offer remote technical support and operational data monitoring through its digital services.

“GasLog is a leading global player in LNG shipping services, contributing to the world’s transition towards a lower carbon future. We at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions are thrilled to support them in ensuring the efficient and sustainable operation of their onboard liquefaction plants,” stated Saman Siahpoush, Head of Services Sales at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions.

Wärtsilä’s reliquefaction system plays a crucial role in managing boil-off gas (BOG) from the LNG cargo, optimizing the operation of the ships’ MR Reliq plants. This leads to reduced emissions, minimized cargo losses, and improved economic performance of the vessels.

In a recent development, Wärtsilä’s reliquefaction system was selected for retrofit and installation on a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) owned by Excelerate Energy, showcasing the technology’s potential to enhance environmental sustainability in maritime operations.

On another front, GasLog’s LNG carrier, GasLog Savannah, made history by delivering the first LNG shipment from the United States to Ukraine’s DTEK Group at the Revithoussa LNG terminal in Greece. The Ukrainian company plans to regasify the LNG and distribute it through the European Union and Ukrainian gas networks.
