Norwegian Subsea Enhances WASSP Multibeam Sonar Systems with Motion Reference Units

Norwegian Subsea’s Motion Reference Units (MRUs) have recently been integrated with WASSP’s multibeam sonar systems, resulting in improved motion data accuracy and performance for offshore applications. This collaboration brings together innovative technology to offer enhanced capabilities for marine surveys and deep-sea fishing.

Enhanced Accuracy and Performance

Designed for ease of setup and operation, Norwegian Subsea MRUs provide comparable heave accuracy to RTK-enabled systems without the need for RTK infrastructure. This means that precise depth correction for multibeam data can be achieved even when external corrections are not available, enhancing the overall accuracy and performance of WASSP’s multibeam systems.

Moreover, Norwegian Subsea MRUs come pre-calibrated and are maintenance-free, reducing downtime and ensuring long-term reliability for users. This seamless integration with WASSP’s multibeam systems results in higher accuracy and performance for sustainable fishing and marine survey applications.

Cost-Effective Solution

According to Nick Fogarty, Senior Product Manager at WASSP, “Norwegian Subsea’s MRUs enhance the accuracy of our mapping and survey capabilities. With the ability to deliver RTK equivalent depth accuracy without the need for an RTK connection, this package offers our customers a cost-effective, high-performance solution. It’s a major boost for applications such as seabed mapping, fishing ground exploration, and underwater object detection, particularly in the offshore market.”

Furthermore, Fredrik Dukan, CEO of Norwegian Subsea, added, “WASSP will help bring our innovative motion compensation technology to a wider audience. By combining WASSP’s advanced multibeam sonar with our maintenance-free, highly accurate MRUs, we can help to enable professional-grade survey bathymetry independent of RTK availability at a fraction of the cost.”
