Norwegian Oil and Gas Giant Aker BP’s Ambitious Projects on the Horizon
Norwegian oil and gas player Aker BP is making significant strides in the completion of its multibillion-dollar project aimed at ensuring hydrocarbon production at its field in the southern part of the Norwegian sector in the North Sea for the next 40 years. The project involves the construction of a production and wellhead platform (PWP) at the Valhall field.
Key Milestones Achieved
One of the key milestones in the project was the fabrication of a 9,500-ton steel jacket for the Valhall PWP platform by Aker Solutions. The jacket was installed with the help of vessels from Allseas and Heerema Marine Contractors. Additionally, a bridge connecting the new PWP platform to the Valhall field center was successfully installed, marking a crucial step forward in the Valhall PWP-Fenris project.
Aker BP emphasized the importance of these achievements, stating, “Our projects generate approximately 150,000 man-years in Norway through the lifetime of the fields, with over 250 Norwegian suppliers directly involved.”
Infrastructure Enhancements
The installation of the bridge between PWP and PH, carried out by Heerema Marine Contractors, is a significant milestone that will secure long-term production at Valhall. The utility module for the Valhall PWP platform, housing essential support systems, is also a critical component ensuring safe and stable offshore operations.
Aker BP highlighted the collaborative effort behind these achievements, stating, “This achievement is the result of close collaboration between Aker BP, Aker Solutions, and Worley, built on a strong OneTeam culture.”
Future Development Projects
Aside from the Valhall project, Aker BP is also actively involved in other development projects, including Yggdrasil. The Yggdrasil project, estimated at over $10.3 billion, involves the Hugin, Fulla, and Munin license groups in the North Sea. Partnerships with Equinor and PGNIG Upstream Norway are driving the project forward.
“When the Aker BP-operated Yggdrasil starts production in 2027, the area will contribute to a stable and secure energy supply to Europe,” explained the company.
Environmental Commitment
Aker BP is committed to producing low-cost oil and gas with low greenhouse gas emission intensity. The Yggdrasil project, powered from shore, is expected to contain approximately 700 million barrels of oil equivalent. Export of oil and gas from the project will be overseen by Equinor, with assistance from Allseas’ Solitaire vessel for pipeline installation.
With these ambitious projects on the horizon, Aker BP is solidifying its position as a key player in the Norwegian oil and gas sector, driving innovation, collaboration, and sustainable energy practices.
