Trillion Energy Initiates Gas Field Operations Offshore Türkiye

Canada’s prominent oil and gas player, Trillion Energy, has commenced operations on two tripod platforms in a bid to enhance production and optimize gas flow at a field offshore Türkiye.

As of December 31, 2024, Trillion announced the arrival of a crane barge at the SASB gas field to facilitate the transportation of the snubbing unit from the Akçakoca platform to the Akkaya tripod for the upcoming operation on the Alapli-2 well, where 2,996 meters of 2 3/8″ tubing will be inserted.

The company initiated velocity string operations at the field in October to replace 4 1/2″ production tubing. Subsequently, snubbing operations began in November, with the insertion of velocity strings in four existing wells in late December, following some weather-related delays.

After the essential equipment, including the snubbing unit and high-pressure hoses, was offloaded onto the Akkaya platform, the snubbing unit was rigged onto the Alapli-2 gas well. On January 2, 2025, Trillion officially commenced the installation of the velocity string tubing at the well.

Upon completing Alapli-2, the snubbing unit is set to be moved to the East Ayazli tripod using a crane barge, where 2,888 meters of 2 3/8″ velocity string tubing will be run in the Bayhanli-2 well.

Trillion plans to utilize three sets of burst discs in each well to facilitate floating the tubing in the horizontal section during installation, which will then be ruptured. The crane barge and snubbing crew will be released once the velocity string is successfully run in the wells.

Subsequent nitrogen stimulation activities are planned, as Trillion asserts their effectiveness in initiating previous gas wells successfully.

Weather permitting, Trillion aims to complete the entire operation within approximately two weeks. Furthermore, the company disclosed plans to size gas lift compressors for various wells, commencing with South Akçakoca.

The velocity string program constitutes the second stage of the workover program aimed at revitalizing the field and ensuring sustained long-term natural gas production. Phase 1, which encompassed perforation operations, was concluded in mid-August.
