Worley Secures Contract for Phase 2 of Brunsbüttel FSRU Terminal in Germany

Worley, a global engineering company, has been awarded a contract by Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET) for Phase 2 of the Brunsbüttel Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) terminal in Brunsbüttel, Germany. DET, a subsidiary of the German government, aims to enhance Germany’s energy security by importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) through this terminal.

As part of the contract, Worley will provide construction, installation, and commissioning services for Phase 2 of the FSRU terminal. Additionally, the company will offer engineering and procurement services to support the project. The scope of Phase 2 includes the installation of a permanent jetty and associated gas import facilities.

Phase 1 of the FSRU terminal was successfully completed by DET and Worley, allowing LNG integration into Germany’s energy grid during the winter of 2022-23. The upcoming Phase 2 project further solidifies Worley’s partnership with DET and demonstrates its expertise in delivering complex energy infrastructure projects.

Chris Ashton, CEO of Worley, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “This significant LNG project enhances Germany’s energy security and advances its transition to a lower carbon future. We are pleased to build on our existing partnership with DET, demonstrating our project delivery capability across a wide range of project requirements.”

In 2024, RWE handed over the LNG infrastructure in Brunsbüttel to DET as planned, marking a milestone in the first LNG import flow. The continued collaboration between Worley, DET, and other stakeholders highlights the commitment to sustainable energy solutions and infrastructure development in Germany.
