Xodus Delivers Guide on Jobs for Australian Interconnector Project

Global energy consultancy Xodus has recently unveiled a comprehensive guide outlining the anticipated job opportunities for the Marinus Link project, a major interconnector project set to connect North West Tasmania with Victoria in Australia.

What is Marinus Link?

Marinus Link is a proposed undersea and underground electricity and data interconnector that aims to facilitate the transmission of low-cost renewable energy between North West Tasmania and Victoria. The project is currently in the design and approvals phase, with construction scheduled to commence in 2026.

Projected Economic Impact

According to research conducted by Ernst and Young (EY), the Marinus Link project is expected to generate up to 3,300 direct and indirect jobs, providing a significant economic stimulus of approximately $3.9 billion for Tasmania and Victoria.

Xodus Workforce Guide

Xodus was commissioned by Marinus Link to map out the construction and operations workforce requirements for the project. The resulting guide offers insights into the anticipated workforce needs across various sectors and disciplines, providing indicative position descriptions and qualifications for each role.

The guide serves as a valuable resource for promoting local content and fostering an understanding of the training and education pathways available for residents interested in working on the project. It outlines the location of the positions, the project phases they will be involved in, and lists relevant training providers in Tasmania, Victoria, and wider Australia.

Opportunities for Specialized Roles

Highlighting opportunities for specialist roles such as offshore vessels, onshore transmission, and horizontal directional drilling (HDD), the guide offers a comprehensive overview of the diverse job opportunities that will be available throughout the project’s development.

Lara Taylor, Lead Renewables Consultant at Xodus, emphasized the importance of early workforce planning, stating, “By outlining workforce requirements at this early stage, the easily accessible guide will assist both Marinus Link and its subcontractors in planning for the project’s needs.”

Project Ownership

Marinus Link is a joint venture owned by the Federal government (49%), the Tasmanian state government (17.7%), and the Victorian state government (33.3%).

With Xodus’ insightful workforce guide in hand, the Marinus Link project is poised to create significant job opportunities and drive economic growth in the region, paving the way for a sustainable energy future in Australia.
