Singapore Launches Electric Vessel Charging Station in Collaboration with Yinson GreenTech and Wilhelmsen Ships Service

Singapore-based green technology solutions provider Yinson GreenTech (YGT) has teamed up with Norwegian maritime solutions provider Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) to unveil an electric vessel charging station at WSS’s Pandan Loop facility in Singapore.

This groundbreaking initiative marks the first joint project between the two companies, with plans for additional stations in the pipeline.

The charging station boasts six IP67-rated CCS2-ready power outlets of varying capacities to accommodate a range of electric harbor crafts. It is equipped with dynamic load balancing and adaptive load management systems to ensure efficient power distribution and cater to the increasing demand for electrification.

“Transitioning to electric harbor crafts can significantly reduce emissions and improve air quality at ports. This aligns with our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint in maritime logistics. It also helps our customers address their Scope 3 emissions,” commented Kjell Andre Engen, President of Wilhelmsen Ships Services.

“Infrastructure readiness is crucial for scaling maritime electrification. A robust charging network is essential to support the growing fleet of electric harbor crafts, including our electric cargo vessel Hydromover 2.0 and electric passenger hydrofoil vessel Hydroglyder,” noted Jan-Viggo Johansen, Managing Director of marinEV, Yinson GreenTech’s marine electrification arm.

YGT and WSS previously joined forces in October last year to develop the charging infrastructure for Singapore’s first fully electric cargo ship, Hydromover.

Collaborative Efforts for Marine Electrification

In March this year, YGT, WSS, and R W Marine Services signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to drive the adoption of marine electrification in Singapore. Under the MOU, RW will lease and manage the electric vessels provided by YGT, while WPS plans to charter these ships from RW for zero-emission launch services.
