COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers Christens Eco-Friendly Pulp Carrier Green Qingdao

COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, a unit of China’s COSCO Shipping Group, recently held a christening ceremony for its newest eco-friendly 77,000 dwt multipurpose pulp carrier Green Qingdao.

On February 19, 2025, the company celebrated the delivery of the new vessel at the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian) yard. Green Qingdao boasts impressive dimensions with a length of 225 meters, a beam of 32.2 meters, and a depth of 21 meters.

The vessel is the fifteenth unit in the 77,000-ton multipurpose vessel series and is designed to transport a variety of cargo, including high-speed trains, wind power equipment, new energy vehicles, and large machinery.

Green Qingdao is a sustainability- and energy efficiency-focused vessel featuring box-shaped cargo holds equipped with rotary dehumidifiers for optimal storage conditions, highlighting COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers’ commitment to eco-friendly shipping practices.

Following its delivery, the newbuild is scheduled to operate on the South America-East Coast route, facilitating the transportation of new energy vehicles and containers from Chinese ports to Brazil.

COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers currently operates a fleet of over 160 specialized vessels, including more than 50 newbuild multipurpose units ranging from 62,000 to 77,000 dwt.

In July 2024, the company christened the 77,000 dwt multipurpose pulp vessel Green Itajai, which was ordered in 2022 at the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian) shipyard. Subsequently, in August 2024, COSCO Shipping welcomed three new energy-efficient pulp carriers, further expanding its eco-friendly fleet.

Additionally, in September 2024, COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers welcomed MV Yuan Fu, its second unit in the 62,000 dwt multipurpose heavy lift vessel series, at the CSSC Chengxi Shipyard in Jiangyin, China. The company plans to deliver a total of 10 newbuildings in this series by the end of 2025.
