India’s Cairn Oil & Gas Partners with TechnipFMC for Deepwater Projects

India’s largest private oil and gas player, Cairn Oil & Gas, has announced a strategic alliance with TechnipFMC to enhance the delivery of integrated subsea infrastructure for upcoming deepwater projects in India.

The collaboration with TechnipFMC will leverage their integrated engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (iEPCI) model, providing Cairn with the necessary expertise and technologies to accelerate its deepwater exploration ambitions.

Utilizing an integrated front-end engineering and design (iFEED) model, the alliance aims to optimize project performance by incorporating TechnipFMC’s subsea production systems and subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF) work scopes.

Expansion Plans and Exploration

Cairn Oil & Gas currently contributes approximately 25% of India’s domestic crude oil production and has outlined plans to double this output. The company holds a significant deepwater block spanning 4,500 sq km in the Krishna Godavari basin on the east coast.

Within this block, Cairn has identified four gas discoveries, with a substantial portion mapped out using 3D seismic technology. These four prospects are estimated to hold a resource potential of 5 trillion cubic feet (tcf), although they are yet to be drilled.

This strategic alliance with TechnipFMC signifies Cairn’s commitment to advancing its deepwater exploration activities and further solidifying its position in India’s oil and gas sector.
