Geoquip Marine Completes Preliminary Geotechnical Site Investigation for 4 GW Offshore Wind Projects

Geoquip Marine, a Njord Partners portfolio company, has successfully completed a preliminary geotechnical site investigation for two 4 GW offshore wind projects in the German sector of the North Sea. This crucial investigation will support the developer in advancing the next phase of design for both project sites.

As part of the contract, Geoquip drilled 28 boreholes across the project sites to analyze the subsea terrain for turbine foundations. The company conducted thorough soil sampling and seismic site monitoring to gather essential data for the engineering parameters of both projects at depths of 40 meters.

Using the Dina Polaris vessel equipped with geotechnical drilling, sampling, and testing equipment, along with an offshore laboratory, Geoquip was able to provide real-time seabed data. This approach allowed for the identification of challenging site conditions in a safe and efficient manner.

Germany has set ambitious offshore wind capacity targets, aiming to install at least 30GW by 2030. The successful development of these projects will play a vital role in helping the country reach its renewable energy goals. The potential renewable power generated by both projects will also support the integration of low-carbon technologies such as hydrogen and biofuel production, contributing to wider industry decarbonization efforts in Germany.

Commenting on the completion of the geotechnical site investigation, Fatih Topal, Project Manager at Geoquip Marine, stated, “Receiving this safety award is a testament to our commitment to delivering reliable data with safety at the heart of everything we do. It reflects the precision and transparency we bring to every stage of our work, especially as we identify and mitigate complex site and seabed conditions to support the safe development of critical wind projects. Safety and reliability aren’t just priorities for us; they are the foundation of our approach, and we remain focused on setting the standard across the industry.”
