Vertom enriches green fleet with latest diesel-electric MPP

Dutch Shipping Company Vertom Group Welcomes New Addition to Fleet

Dutch shortsea shipping company Vertom Group has recently welcomed its eighth 7,280 dwt diesel-electric multipurpose dry cargo ship, the MV Vertom Joyce, into its fleet.

The latest addition, part of the LABRAX series, was constructed by Thecla Bodewes Shipyards and officially joined the fleet on May 28. This newbuild represents a significant step forward in the company’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency in maritime transportation.

The MV Vertom Joyce measures 118.60 meters in length, with a beam of 14.30 meters and a full-box cargo hold capacity of 329,700 cubic feet. Designed to set new benchmarks in sustainability, the vessel is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system and is future-proofed for the integration of alternative fuels and advanced power sources.

Vertom Group’s LABRAX series has already demonstrated success in fuel efficiency and emission reduction, with previous vessels in the series showing significant cuts in harmful pollutant emissions. The company currently operates a fleet of over 100 vessels, ranging from 1,500 to 12,000 dwt, all in line with strict environmental regulations.

Looking ahead, Vertom Group has commissioned India’s Chowgule shipyard for the construction of four 10,700 dwt diesel-electric multipurpose vessels in pink color, set for delivery in 2027 and 2028. MacGregor, part of Finland-based Cargotec, will supply fully electric cargo cranes for these vessels, further enhancing their eco-friendly capabilities.

With its headquarters near Rotterdam, Vertom Group is at the forefront of adopting eco-friendly technological solutions and aims to own and operate a future-ready fleet in alignment with the International Maritime Organization’s Net Zero Framework.
