Tidal Technologies Limited Launches Procurement Process for Full-Scale Tidal Energy Prototype
Tidal Technologies Limited (TTL) has announced the commencement of a procurement process for the equipment supply, manufacturing, and installation of components for its first full-scale tidal energy prototype.
The procurement process is specifically for the development of TTL’s next-generation offshore tidal stream energy platform, known as TT2.
TT2 is designed to significantly reduce the operation and maintenance costs of tidal turbines while enhancing efficiency in medium-energy tides.
The TT2 platform comprises a reinforced concrete Gravity Base Structure (GBS) that supports a steel superstructure and two vertical axis turbines.
This innovative design allows for efficient sea transportation and deployment, offering the potential to generate clean and predictable energy from medium-speed tidal currents.
“This tender marks a significant milestone in bringing our pioneering tidal energy technology to the market. We are seeking experienced partners who can assist us in delivering this cutting-edge renewable energy solution that will make a substantial contribution to the UK’s clean energy goals,” said David Scott, Founding Director at TTL.
The project is set to be deployed at the Morlais Demonstration Zone (MDZ) in North Wales, with construction and assembly to take place in either Pembroke or Liverpool.
TTL is inviting expressions of interest from proficient companies with expertise in marine concrete structure construction, offshore steel fabrication, turbine and electrical component supply, precision mechanical engineering, marine electrical systems integration, offshore transportation and installation, subsea cable supply and installation, as well as EPC services for large marine or offshore infrastructure.
“We are dedicated to fostering strong partnerships within our supply chain. This procurement process has been structured to identify suppliers who can not only meet our technical requirements but also share our vision for advancing tidal energy as a crucial element of the UK’s renewable energy mix,” added Jim ConybeareCross, Founder Director at TTL.
The deadline for the submission of interest has been set for July 4, 2025.
