Kongsberg Maritime to Supply Design and Equipment Package for Petrobras PSV Contract

Another major Petrobras PSV contract is in the works, as Kongsberg Maritime is set to supply a design and equipment package for six hybrid PSVs to Brazil’s Compagnie Maritime Monegasque (CMM). This exciting development comes after CMM ranked first in a Petrobras tender for six large multipurpose 5,000 DWT platform supply vessels (PSV) with oil spill recovery capacity, positioning them to secure 12-year charter contracts with Petrobras for the newbuilds, which will be constructed at Brazil’s Enseada shipyard.

Latest Contracts

Last week, Petrobras awarded contracts to Edison Chouest Offshore’s Brazilian affiliate Bram Offshore and Starnav for the construction and operation of six new hybrid PSVs, indicating a growing trend towards sustainable offshore operations in the region.

Innovative Design and Technology

For the CMM project, Kongsberg Maritime will provide a cutting-edge 92-meter UT7420 ship design, the latest addition to its successful UT design range. These vessels will feature advanced design, state-of-the-art technology, and hybrid propulsion systems that promise a significant improvement in fuel efficiency compared to traditional vessels.

The vessels are also designed to be upgraded to ethanol fuel, offering a potential reduction in carbon emissions by up to 70% once the upgrade is completed.

Commitment to Sustainability

With a strong presence in Brazil and a commitment to supporting the country’s maritime sector, Kongsberg Maritime aims to create new employment opportunities within Brazil through this project. The company’s experience and capabilities position it as a key player in advancing sustainable offshore operations in the region.

Atle Gaasø, sales director offshore at Kongsberg Maritime, emphasized the importance of the project in promoting sustainable offshore operations, while Christophe Vancauwenbergh, CEO of CMM, highlighted the critical role of Kongsberg Maritime in the success of the bid.

This collaboration represents a significant step forward in the quest for more efficient and sustainable offshore operations, leveraging innovative ship design and advanced technology to achieve unparalleled fuel efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
