Capital Offshore, under the leadership of Evangelos Marinakis, has made a significant move in the offshore industry by placing an order with China’s Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding for 10 state-of-the-art Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) of MMC 897 CD design.

This substantial order has also led to Kongsberg Maritime securing a NOK 800 million contract to provide a comprehensive range of equipment for the vessels, including propulsion, automation, and energy systems.

These 10 new vessels represent a major investment by Capital Offshore in the PSV market, with strategic plans to expand its presence in offshore oil and gas operations, particularly in the Brazilian market.

Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, President of Kongsberg Maritime, expressed pride in being a key partner in Capital Offshore’s growth strategy, stating, “We are proud to be playing a key role in helping them to achieve their goals through the supply of a significant package of integrated technologies across their new fleet of platform supply vessels.”

Each vessel will feature a fully integrated electrical system, propulsion, and energy controls to ensure optimal performance and safety while maximizing energy efficiency. The vessels will also be equipped with an Energy Storage System (ESS) for peak shaving, spinning reserve, and power boost, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

Gerry Ventouris, General Manager of Capital Offshore, emphasized the importance of partnering with Kongsberg Maritime for essential equipment, stating, “We aim to ensure that these vessels are of the highest quality, and partnering with Kongsberg Maritime is a critical step in achieving that goal.”

The propulsion system for each vessel will include azimuth thrusters and tunnel thrusters powered by permanent magnet motors, along with a DC hybrid electrical power plant integrated with the propulsion system and Dynamic Positioning (DP) for optimal operability, performance, and fuel efficiency.
