Wave energy system endures stormy conditions at Jaffa Port

Wave Energy Project in Israel Continues to Thrive Despite Stormy Conditions

Wave energy developer Eco Wave Power’s EWP-EDF One wave energy project at Jaffa Port in Israel operated without interruption during storm-classified conditions in the last week of December 2024, delivering constant energy despite challenging weather.

With wave heights averaging 1.6 meters and peak power output reaching 26 kW, the system proved capable of providing round-the-clock reliable energy, Eco Wave Power noted.

According to the company, the project demonstrated durability, enduring stormy conditions without sustaining any damage.

“We are extremely proud of the performance of our EWP-EDF One project at Jaffa Port, which demonstrated its ability to produce energy 24/7 even during stormy conditions,” said Inna Braverman, CEO and Founder of Eco Wave Power.

“This is a testament to the durability and reliability of our technology. We look forward to continuing our momentum with our projects in Taiwan, Portugal, and the Port of Los Angeles, as we work to accelerate the global transition to clean, renewable energy.”

Advancing Sustainable Energy Solutions

Eco Wave Power’s technology, which harnesses wave motion to generate electricity, has proven to maintain stable output under adverse weather conditions. This reliability in rough seas sets wave energy apart from other renewable sources, mitigating intermittency issues.

The successful operation of the EWP-EDF One project during non-ideal conditions strengthens the case for wave energy as a viable solution for sustainable power generation, the company emphasized.

Global Expansion Efforts

Eco Wave Power is actively expanding its presence worldwide. The company is gearing up for the deployment of a wave energy system at AltaSea in the Port of Los Angeles in partnership with Shell. With a federal license secured from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this project is set to commence operations by the end of Q1 2025.

Simultaneously, Eco Wave Power is advancing projects in Taiwan with I-KE and in Portugal, where it aims to establish wave energy installations.

Recent Milestones

In December 2024, Eco Wave Power and EDF Renewables unveiled the Middle East’s first grid-connected wave energy power station at Jaffa Port. This installation is supplying clean electricity to the national grid under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Israeli National Electric Company (IEC).

Later that month, the wave energy developer entered into a securities purchase agreement with a single institutional investor to deploy commercial-scale wave energy technology. The offering involves the sale of 300,000 American Depositary Shares (ADSs), each representing eight common shares, at $10 per ADS.
