Van Oord Wins Subsea Rock Installation Contract for Polish Offshore Wind Farms

Van Oord

Dutch marine construction firm Van Oord has secured a contract for subsea rock installation on the Bałtyk 2 and 3 offshore wind developments in Poland.

The contract includes the procurement, transportation, and protection of the seabed around the foundations of wind turbines and offshore substations, as well as the routes of the inter-array cables and those connecting the wind farms to the Polish power grid.

Developed by Equinor and Polenergia, the Bałtyk 2 and 3 offshore wind farms will have a combined capacity of 1.44 GW.

With a total capacity of up to 3 GW, these offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea will be able to provide power to 4 million households in Poland. The first energy from the projects is expected to flow into the grid in 2027, with commercial operations starting in 2028.

Van Oord joins multiple contractors lined up for the Baltic Sea wind farms, located 22 km and 37 km from the port of Leba in Poland.

This contract adds to Van Oord’s Polish offshore wind market backlog, which includes monopile installation work on the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 project developed by Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, as well as the 1.2 GW Baltic Power project developed by ORLEN and Northland Power.
