Gasum powers Equinor’s tugboats with bio-LNG

Gasum Delivers Bio-LNG to Equinor Tugboats in Ongoing Collaboration

Finland-based energy company Gasum has recently supplied bio-LNG to two tugboats operated by Norwegian energy major Equinor, marking another milestone in their partnership aimed at promoting the use of sustainable fuels.

Gasum will be responsible for bunkering Equinor’s tugboats, Borgøy and Bokn, with bio-LNG throughout the year 2025. The first bunkering operation for Borgøy took place at Kårstø on February 14, showcasing the commitment of both companies to environmentally friendly solutions.

This latest agreement between Gasum and Equinor signifies a deeper integration of their ongoing collaboration. In 2024, the two companies extended their bunkering partnership with a long-term contract that involves Gasum supplying LNG to Equinor’s dual-fuel chartered fleet of vessels. The contract also includes additional services such as cooling down and gassing up.

In a significant development in 2024, Gasum supplied bio-LNG to Equinor’s chartered platform supply vessel, Island Crusader, at the Port of Dusavik in Stavanger, further solidifying their commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

“Expanding the use of bio-LNG as the primary fuel for powering these tugboats is a crucial step towards achieving Equinor’s sustainability objectives,” Gasum stated, highlighting the importance of transitioning to cleaner fuels in the maritime industry.
