ADNOC Gas and EWEC Partner to Support UAE’s Energy Transformation
ADNOC Gas, an affiliate of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), has recently announced a long-term strategic partnership with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) to support the energy transformation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The partnership, celebrated during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025, includes a gas sales and purchase agreement (GSPA) valued at $10 billion over 10 years.
Under the agreement, natural gas will be supplied to plants across the country to help transition to a lower-carbon water and electricity system, aligning with the UAE’s sustainability goals. The collaboration between ADNOC Gas and EWEC demonstrates their shared commitment to driving sustainable economic growth in the UAE.
ADNOC Gas CEO’s Perspective
Fatema Al Nuaimi, CEO of ADNOC Gas, emphasized the importance of the partnership with EWEC in advancing the nation’s net-zero ambitions. Al Nuaimi stated, “By collaborating across the industrial value chain to leverage Abu Dhabi’s vast gas reserves, we are working to ensure the UAE’s self-sufficiency while continuing to fuel over two thirds of the nation’s industries, driving sustainable economic growth and diversification.”
EWEC’s Clean Energy Initiatives
EWEC, as the procurer and supplier of water and electricity in Abu Dhabi, is focused on implementing strategic initiatives to achieve the 60% clean energy target outlined in the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy’s Clean Energy Strategic Target 2035. The partnership with ADNOC Gas will support EWEC in transforming the UAE’s energy sector into a clean and renewable-focused industry.
Othman Al Ali, CEO of EWEC, highlighted the significance of the agreement with ADNOC Gas in enabling the UAE’s energy transition. Al Ali stated, “This partnership strengthens EWEC’s ability to deliver a secure, efficient, and decarbonised water and electricity system while contributing to the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.”
Future Plans and Projects
ADNOC Gas is currently developing a 9.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) Ruwais LNG terminal in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi, with plans to acquire its parent company’s stake in the project upon completion in 2028. The project is expected to significantly increase ADNOC Gas’s gas output.
Earlier this month, infrastructure contracts worth $2.1 billion were awarded for the Ruwais LNG project, including works on an LNG pre-conditioning plant, compression facilities, and transmission pipelines.
The collaboration between ADNOC Gas and EWEC marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and diversified energy sector in the UAE, supporting the nation’s economic growth and long-term energy security.
