UK-based AIS Secures Subsea Insulation Contract for Mero 4 Oil Field in Brazil

UK-headquartered AIS has secured a subsea insulation contract for the Mero 4 oil field in Brazil, marking its fifth award for insulation systems in the region.

The company will be supplying its ContraTherm C25 insulation system for the production pipeline end termination (PLET) and production and water alternating gas jumpers.

This latest contract adds to AIS’ track record of providing reliable subsea insulation solutions for Brazil’s subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF) projects over the past three years.

“We have firmly established ourselves as a trusted supplier for SURF projects in the region. With a fully qualified insulation system for major EPC clients, this is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our teams,” said Andrew Bennion, CEO of AIS.

The ContraTherm C25 insulation system is known for providing flow assurance for complex subsea equipment in high-pressure and high-temperature environments. It has been in service for over 12 years and is suitable for operating temperatures of up to 150°C and water depths of 3,000 meters.

The Mero field, located in the pre-salt Santos Basin and operated by Petrobras in partnership with Shell Brasil, TotalEnergies, CNPC, CNOOC, and Pré-Sal Petróleo SA, is part of the Libra consortium.

In December 2024, CRP Subsea, a division of AIS, was contracted to supply its distributed buoyancy modules (DBMs) for a deepwater oil field project in the pre-salt Santos Basin, further solidifying AIS’ presence in the Brazilian subsea sector.
