Babcock International Group Awarded $84 Million Contract for UK Royal Navy’s Type 31 Frigates

Babcock International Group has secured a significant contract worth USD$84 million (£65 million) to deliver the Capability Insertion Period (CIP) for the UK Royal Navy’s Type 31 frigates. The contract involves the enhancement of crucial capabilities that will support the ships throughout their operational lifespan.

The CIP project encompasses the insertion, testing, and enhancement of various upgrades that will bolster the military capability of the Type 31 frigates. These enhancements are vital for ensuring the effectiveness and readiness of the ships in fulfilling their strategic roles.

The activities associated with the CIP will be carried out at Babcock’s state-of-the-art facility in Rosyth, Scotland. The company’s skilled team, renowned for their expertise and experience in naval shipbuilding, will be responsible for implementing these upgrades with precision and efficiency.

Having been awarded the design and build contract for the Type 31 frigates in November 2019, Babcock is committed to supporting the Royal Navy’s mission of deterring aggression and safeguarding the UK’s interests. The Type 31 frigates are poised to become integral components of the Royal Navy’s surface fleet, working in collaboration with allied forces to maintain a UK presence on the global stage.

By delivering the next generation of Royal Navy warships, Babcock is contributing to the strategic objectives of the UK armed forces and reinforcing the nation’s maritime capabilities. The successful execution of the CIP project will further enhance the operational effectiveness and combat readiness of the Type 31 frigates, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of naval operations for years to come.
