Brava Energia Commences Production at FPSO Atlanta in Santos Basin

Brazilian energy player Brava Energia, formerly known as 3R Petroleum before its merger with Enauta, has successfully initiated production at the FPSO Atlanta, a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel located off the coast of Brazil in the Santos Basin.

With the recent approval from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP) for the commencement of operations at the FPSO Atlanta, the first oil was extracted on December 31, 2024, through the Atlanta Definitive Production System.

“Achieving this milestone, BRAVA has positioned itself as the first independent oil and gas company in the country to execute a deepwater production system from its inception phase, within the projected budget and timelines for well drilling, initial equipment installation, and FPSO construction,” emphasized the operator.

Brava Energia disclosed that the initial production at the FPSO Atlanta commenced through wells 6H and 7H, with ongoing stabilization. The company is currently progressing with the connection campaign for the remaining four wells (2H, 3H, 4H, and 5H), expected to be finalized by the second quarter of 2025.

The FPSO Atlanta has the capacity to produce up to 50,000 barrels of oil per day, process 140,000 barrels of water per day, and store a maximum of 1.6 million barrels of oil. This vessel has replaced the FPSO Petrojarl I, which had been operating at the Atlanta field in block BS-4 in the Santos Basin since 2018.

Acquired for Atlanta’s Full Development System (FDS) in 2022, the FPSO Atlanta will initially connect to six wells, with plans to expand to ten by 2029. Chartered and operated by Malaysia’s Yinson Production, the unit is set to remain operational at the Brazilian field for 15 years, with the possibility of extension for an additional five years at the discretion of Brava Energia.

Yinson Production expressed its excitement, stating: “We are delighted to announce the successful commencement of first oil from FPSO Atlanta on December 31, 2024, marking the beginning of its 15-year charter! This achievement reflects the expertise, resilience, and dedication of our team in delivering exceptional operational performance while prioritizing sustainability and safety.”

Aside from the FPSO Atlanta project, Brava Energia has recently resumed production at the Papa-Terra oil field in the Campos Basin and completed the acquisition of the Shell-operated Parque das Conchas through a strategic agreement with QatarEnergy.
