China’s ZTT Submarine Cable & System Begins Construction of Advanced Pure-Electric Cable Laying Vessel

China’s ZTT Submarine Cable & System has initiated the construction of an innovative, pure-electric cable laying vessel (CLV) that will cater to offshore wind, island interconnections, and regional grid expansion projects in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

The state-of-the-art, self-propelled CLV will have a length of 139.8 meters and a beam of 38 meters. It will be equipped with electric propulsion and DP2 dynamic positioning systems, a helicopter platform, large coaxial turntables, and dual-launch channels.

The vessel will possess a cable capacity of 16,000 tons and an annual installation capability of over 1,000 kilometers.

ZTT mentioned that the vessel is designed for navigating in complex marine environments without limitations. It will enable simultaneous dual-cable laying, deepwater single-hook operations, and cross-border project execution.

“This milestone underscores our dedication to partnering with global installation specialists. By working collaboratively, we enhance regional project delivery, advance shared energy transition goals, and drive sustainable progress in offshore development worldwide,” ZTT stated.

In other recent developments, ZTT Submarine Cable & System recently secured a contract for a 500 kV submarine cable for Shenzhen Energy’s 500 MW Honghai Bay VI offshore wind project in China.
