DEME and Van Oord Secure Contracts for Installation Works at Fengmiao 1 Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan
DEME and Van Oord have recently announced separate contracts with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) for installation works at the 500 MW Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan. These contracts mark significant milestones in the development of renewable energy projects in the region.
DEME’s Contract for Foundation and Substation Installation
DEME, in partnership with its Taiwanese joint venture CDWE, has been awarded a substantial contract for the transport and installation of foundations and the offshore substation at the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm. This contract, valued between $155 million and $310 million, includes the transport and installation of 33 jacket foundations, pin piles anchoring them to the seabed, and the offshore substation.
CDWE, Taiwan’s leading offshore wind contractor formed through a collaboration between CSBC and DEME, will deploy its offshore installation vessel Green Jade for the project. The installation works are scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026.
Van Oord’s Scope of Work for Inter-Array Cable Installation
Van Oord, a Dutch company with a strong track record in offshore wind projects, will be responsible for the installation of inter-array cables at the Fengmiao 1 wind farm. Their scope of work includes the transportation, installation, and burial of 33 inter-array cables with a total length of approximately 64 kilometers.
To carry out the cable installation work, Van Oord will deploy its cable-laying vessel Nexus and use a remote-controlled trencher to bury the cables to the required depth below the seabed. The inter-array cable installation work is set to begin in 2027.
About Fengmiao 1 Offshore Wind Farm
The Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm is located approximately 35 kilometers off the coast of Taichung in central Taiwan. Once fully operational, the 500 MW wind farm will serve as a significant source of green electricity for Taiwanese businesses, supporting the government’s goal of installing 5.7 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2025 and an additional 15 GW by 2035.
These contracts highlight the continued growth of the renewable energy sector in Taiwan and the commitment of industry leaders like DEME and Van Oord to driving sustainable energy solutions in the region.
