Dutch Marine Masters Successfully Completes Offshore Decommissioning Project

Dutch offshore contractor Marine Masters has achieved a significant milestone in the decommissioning of the South Angsi Alpha (SAA) platform, operated by Hibiscus Oil & Gas Malaysia. The completion of the offshore scope marks a major step in the repurposing of retired offshore infrastructure.

Platform Repurposing

The SAA platform’s substructure now rests on the seabed as part of Malaysia’s largest rig-to-reef project. Situated 130 km off the Terengganu coast, the platform was a 4,000 mt MOAB that served as a production facility for over 15 years before ceasing operations.

Marine Masters was responsible for the removal of the MOAB using a reversed installation method, along with the removal of various components for safe disposal. The jacket was cut at -55 meters LAT and vertically separated, allowing sections to be laid on the seabed as artificial reef structures.

Project Completion

After successfully completing the offshore operations, Marine Masters has demobilized equipment and concluded their active involvement in the project. The topside components are now being handled for final disposal.
