The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued 54 passengers, including 22 women and 23 children, from a fishing boat, Mohammad Kasim-II, that had been stranded in the Indian Ocean near Lakshadweep’s Kavaratti Island on January 14, 2025.
The boat departed from Kavaratti Island for Suheli Par Island. It was scheduled to reach Suheli Par Island by 9 am, but when it failed to arrive on time, a distress call was made to the Lakshadweep Administration.
The Coast Guard received the distress call around 2:30 pm and launched a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation.
Using the Coastal Surveillance System, the Coast Guard located the boat, which had drifted four nautical miles off Suheli Island due to an engine failure. The boat had been adrift for hours without direction.
The Coast Guard immediately diverted the nearest ship, ICGS Saksham, to the location. By 4:00 pm, the Coast Guard ship reached the stranded boat and rescued all 54 passengers.
The passengers, including women and children, were provided with emergency care onboard the Coast Guard ship. After the rescue, the passengers were safely transported back to Kavaratti Island.
The operation was completed by 9 am the following day, and the rescued individuals were handed over to the Lakshadweep Administration.
District Commander DIG Mobeen Khan stated that the rescue operation was successful, thanks to the quick response and coordination between the Coast Guard, Lakshadweep Fisheries, and the Port Department.
He also discussed the importance of maintaining maritime safety protocols, especially avoiding the overloading of boats and ensuring the presence of life-saving equipment.
The Coast Guard reminded the public that adherence to safety rules is essential to prevent such incidents in the future.

the title: “The Rise of Remote Work: How Technology is Changing the Way We Work”
In recent years, there has been a significant shift in the way people work. With advancements in technology and the increasing availability of high-speed internet, remote work has become more popular than ever before. This trend has been accelerated by the global pandemic, which forced many companies to adopt remote work policies to ensure the safety of their employees.
Remote work offers a myriad of benefits for both employees and employers. For employees, it provides flexibility and the ability to work from anywhere in the world. This has allowed many people to achieve a better work-life balance and avoid long commutes to the office. Remote work also enables employees to save money on transportation and other expenses associated with working in a traditional office setting.
Employers have also seen the advantages of remote work. It allows them to tap into a global talent pool and hire the best candidates regardless of their location. Remote work can also lead to increased productivity, as employees are often more focused and have fewer distractions when working from home. Additionally, companies can save money on office space and other overhead costs by allowing employees to work remotely.
Technology has played a crucial role in enabling remote work. Video conferencing tools like Zoom and Microsoft Teams have made it easy for teams to communicate and collaborate virtually. Project management software such as Trello and Asana help teams stay organized and on track with their tasks. Cloud storage solutions like Google Drive and Dropbox allow employees to access their files from anywhere.
While remote work offers many benefits, it also presents challenges. Some employees may struggle with feelings of isolation and loneliness when working from home. Communication can also be a challenge, as it can be harder to build relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues who are not physically present. Employers must also ensure that remote workers have the necessary tools and resources to be successful in their roles.
As remote work continues to rise in popularity, it is clear that technology will play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of work. Companies that embrace remote work and invest in the necessary technology and infrastructure will be well-positioned to attract top talent and adapt to the changing needs of the workforce. The rise of remote work is not just a trend – it is a fundamental shift in the way we work that is here to stay.
