Exciting News from Venture Global: Calcasieu Pass LNG Export Project Set to Begin Commercial Operations

U.S.-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project developer Venture Global has announced a significant milestone for its Calcasieu Pass LNG export project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The project is scheduled to commence commercial operations on April 15, 2025, marking a major achievement for the company.

Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass facility is set to achieve commercial operation in under 68 months from its final investment decision (FID) in August 2019. Despite facing challenges such as two hurricanes, the COVID-19 pandemic, and manufacturing issues, including the heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), the project has persevered and is on track to meet its target date.

The company expressed its gratitude to the teams involved in the construction and completion of the facilities, as well as to the government regulators for their support and cooperation throughout the process. With the commencement of commercial operations, Venture Global will fulfill its contracts to supply clean LNG to its long-term customers for the next 20 years.

Calcasieu Pass, Venture Global’s first facility, began producing LNG in January 2022 and is designed to export 10 million metric tons per year. The site, located at the Calcasieu Ship Channel, is part of the company’s expansion plans in Louisiana, which also include the Plaquemines LNG facility and the CP2 LNG terminal.

Expansion Plans and Environmental Initiatives

The Plaquemines LNG facility produced its first LNG in December 2024, with an export capacity of up to 20 million metric tons per year. The CP2 LNG terminal, located on Monkey Island, received a positive environmental impact statement in July 2023 and is set to be adjacent to the Calcasieu Pass LNG facility.

Venture Global is committed to environmental sustainability and is developing carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) projects at its LNG facilities to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations. The company is also investing in LNG-powered vessels to enhance its integration across the LNG supply chain.

The CP Express pipeline, originating in Texas, will feed natural gas to the CP2 LNG terminal in Cameron Parish, further strengthening Venture Global’s presence in the LNG market. With a nameplate liquefaction capacity of 20 million metric tonnes per annum and plans for CCS initiatives, the company is poised for continued growth and innovation in the LNG industry.

Overall, Venture Global’s success with the Calcasieu Pass LNG export project reflects its commitment to excellence, sustainability, and meeting the needs of its customers. With the upcoming commencement of commercial operations, the company is set to make a significant impact in the LNG market and contribute to a cleaner energy future.
