Norsepower, a provider of wind-assisted propulsion for the maritime industry, has opened a new rotor sail factory in Dafeng, China.
The facility is expected to produce 50 rotor sails annually, with an expansion plan to double output by the end of 2027. It will be staffed by a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and industry experts to advance Norsepower’s vision for sustainable shipping.
Yancheng City vice mayor Jing Tang expressed excitement about the new factory, stating that it brings job opportunities, strengthens the industrial base, and represents a significant step forward in sustainable maritime solutions.
The factory’s strategic location near essential shipping routes and shipyards will enable Norsepower to meet the increasing demand for eco-friendly maritime technologies.
Norsepower CEO Heikki Pontynen highlighted the company’s leadership in wind-assisted propulsion products and its pioneering role in modernizing the Flettner rotor concept to create a future-proof, data-driven product.
Recent collaborations include equipping the post-panamax bulker Chinook Oldendorff with three Norsepower Rotor Sails and signing an agreement to supply rotor sails for three RoRo vessels being constructed for Louis Dreyfus Armateurs for charter by Airbus.
Norsepower’s new facility in China symbolizes Finnish-Chinese engineering collaboration and reinforces the company’s position in the growing wind propulsion market.
