SBM Offshore Signs Contract with BP for Installation of Kaskida Floating Production Unit

Dutch floater expert SBM Offshore has recently announced a new contract with UK-based supermajor BP for the wet tow and installation of the Kaskida semi-submersible floating production unit (FPU). The Kaskida field, a greenfield Paleogene development, is located approximately 400 km southwest of New Orleans in the Keathley Canyon area of the US Gulf of Mexico.

SBM Offshore’s deepwater moorings and installation expertise will be crucial in the successful deployment of the Kaskida FPU. With a track record of over 150 floating systems installations worldwide, including 45 FPSOs in deepwater, SBM Offshore is well-equipped for this project.

Seatrium, based in Singapore, has been appointed for the engineering, procurement, construction, and onshore commissioning work for the Kaskida FPU. The FPU consists of a single topside module supported by a four-column semi-submersible hull, with subsea production wells located in a water depth of approximately 1,800 m. It is designed to produce 80,000 barrels of crude oil per day from six wells in the initial phase of development.

Enbridge will play a key role in the project by constructing, owning, and operating crude oil and natural gas pipelines. The Canyon Oil Pipeline System, comprising a combination of 24″ and 26″ pipes with a capacity of 200,000 barrels per day, will transport the produced oil from the Kaskida FPU.
