Sailaway Ceremony Marks Departure of FPSO Unit to Búzios Field

A sailaway ceremony was recently held to commemorate the departure of the FPSO unit, P-78, from Seatrium’s yard in Singapore to the Búzios field offshore Brazil, operated by Petrobras. The unit, with a capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), set sail on June 30, 2025, as announced by Petrobras’ CEO, Magda Chambriard.

Chambriard highlighted that the FPSO P-78 is already staffed, saving a significant amount of time on pre-operation work. The ceremony was attended by directors Renata Baruzzi and Sylvia dos Anjos, along with Petrobras’ engineering team, emphasizing the local production of topsides for the unit in Brazil.

The Búzios field, located in the Santos Basin, has been a key site for Petrobras, with the recently commissioned FPSO Almirante Tamandaré and the existing units P-74, P-75, P-76, P-77, and Almirante Barroso. With the arrival of P-78, the field will soon have a total of 11 platforms under its current development concept.

Operated by Petrobras on behalf of the Búzios Shared Reservoir Consortium, the field has seen remarkable production levels, reaching 800 thousand barrels of oil per day in February. The field’s significance in Brazil’s oil production landscape is second only to the Tupi field.

Looking ahead, Petrobras has initiated the construction of another FPSO, P-84, for the Atapu field. The 225,000-boepd unit underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its offshore operations and enhancing production capacities in key fields.
