Trump Signs Executive Order Eliminating Subsidies for Wind and Solar Energy

US president Donald Trump has signed an executive order to eliminate subsidies for green energy sources, specifically wind and solar power, as he continues his campaign against renewable energy.

The order instructs the secretary of the treasury to terminate the clean electricity production and investment tax credits for wind and solar facilities and enforce the Foreign Entity of Concern restrictions outlined in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed on July 4.

Furthermore, the order directs the secretary of the interior, Doug Burgum, to revise regulations and policies to “eliminate preferential treatment for wind and solar facilities compared to reliable, dispatchable energy sources.”

A statement from the White House asserts that President Trump is dedicated to “unleashing American energy and preventing taxpayers from funding costly and unreliable energy policies implemented by former president Joe Biden.”

The White House argues that dependency on subsidies for renewable energy “jeopardizes national security by creating a reliance on supply chains controlled by foreign adversaries.”

The statement emphasizes that Trump’s focus will shift towards nuclear energy, fossil fuels, and emerging technologies.
