Yang Ming Acquires Three Methanol Dual-Fuel-Ready Container Ships

Taiwanese shipping firm Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp has recently made a significant investment by purchasing three 8,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel-ready container ships from Japanese ship leasing company Shoei Kisen Kaisha. These state-of-the-art vessels, currently under construction by Imabari Shipbuilding, are expected to be delivered between 2028 and 2029.

This strategic acquisition is part of Yang Ming’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its global service network and enhance its commitment to providing customers with reliable and sustainable transportation services. The company’s fleet optimization plan, which aims to add up to thirteen 8,000–15,000 TEU class containerships, was approved at a recent board meeting, with the purchase of the three 8,000 TEU vessels marking the initial phase of this plan.

Equipped with energy-efficient main engines, these new vessels will not only deliver immediate energy savings but also offer the flexibility to transition to alternative fuels in the future. Yang Ming’s focus on sustainability and innovation is evident in its decision to invest in environmentally-friendly technologies that will reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a greener maritime industry.

In a statement, Yang Ming emphasized the importance of adapting to the changing dynamics of the shipping industry, including geopolitical shifts, supply chain reorganization, and the growing demand for eco-friendly services. By embracing digitalization, smart technologies, and energy efficiency initiatives, the company aims to enhance its resilience and position itself as a leader in the transportation sector.

With a commitment to providing top-notch transportation services and expanding its regional offerings, Yang Ming is dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of its customers and staying ahead of industry trends. By investing in modern and sustainable vessels, the company is not only ensuring fleet stability but also setting a new standard for environmental responsibility in the maritime sector.
