Azerbaijan Signs Agreements with Chinese Firms for Offshore Wind Energy Projects

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy has recently inked two significant agreements with Chinese companies to advance the development of offshore wind energy projects in the country.

The first agreement, signed with China Energy Overseas Investment, focuses on the assessment, development, and execution of an offshore wind energy project in Azerbaijan.

Another pivotal agreement involves the Ministry, SOCAR Green, China Datang Overseas Investment, and PowerChina collaborating on a massive 2GW offshore wind energy project in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

These agreements outline a comprehensive approach that encompasses the design, financing, engineering, construction, operation, and maintenance of the projects.

During his recent visit to China, Azerbaijan’s president Ilham Aliyev sealed six agreements related to renewable energy projects, underscoring the country’s commitment to sustainable energy initiatives.

Aside from the offshore wind projects, the deals also encompass plans for solar power plants with a combined capacity of 260MW, a groundbreaking 100MW floating solar power plant, a 30MW battery storage system, and collaboration on renewable energy and electric power system planning.
