Grimaldi Group Welcomes Second Ammonia-Ready PCTC, Grande Tianjin

Italy’s prominent shipping company, Grimaldi Group, has officially received the delivery of its second ammonia-ready pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), Grande Tianjin.

The unveiling ceremony for the 9,000 CEU vessel took place on August 8 at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). This event also marked a significant milestone for SWS as it marked the delivery of their 600th vessel.

Grande Tianjin is set to embark on its maiden voyage on August 19, transporting vehicles from the Chinese NEV brand Leapmotor to Europe.

This state-of-the-art vessel is equipped with a low-consumption main engine, integrated energy-saving devices such as a twisted rudder and rudder bulb with fins, and a medium-voltage shore power system that enables zero emissions while at berth.

Furthermore, Grande Tianjin has obtained the prestigious Ammonia Ready class notation from RINA, certifying its capability to be converted for the use of ammonia as an alternative, zero-carbon fuel.

Grimaldi’s Grande Tianjin is the second of a total of ten next-generation PCTCs featuring RINA’s Ammonia Ready class notation. The initial five units will have a capacity of 9,000 CEU, while the remaining five ships will boast an increased capacity of 9,800 CEU.

The first vessel in this series, Grande Shanghai, was christened during a ceremony held on July 21 in Haimen, China.
